NumberingData

Editorial policy

How NumberingData decides what to publish, who writes it, and when a page is held back.

A page exists only when it can answer the question

This site is generated from datasets, which makes it easy to produce thousands of pages that say almost nothing. We do not do that. Each page type has a minimum set of facts it must carry, and a page that cannot be filled from verified sources is not generated at all – it does not appear in the site, the sitemap or the search index.

For an area code in service, that minimum is: state or province, in-service date, number-block allocation, carrier share, complaint history for a stated window, and a source list with dates. For a code that has been assigned but is not yet live, it is: the parent code, the overlay complex, what will change when it starts, and the NANPA record proving it exists.

Figures come from the source, not from inference

Where a figure can be read off a primary record, we read it off the record and cite it. Where it cannot, the page says so. We do not fill a gap with a plausible number, an industry average, or a figure from an aggregator that does not say where it got it.

This rule has cost us pages. The carrier insurance section is unpublished for exactly this reason.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, we want to know and we will fix it with the date of the change shown on the page. Request a correction.

Who writes this

Pages carry the name of the person who verified them. Automated generation fills the structure; a person checks the facts against the sources before a section is published.

Money

We do not take payment to include, exclude or rank a carrier, and no carrier reviews these pages. Where a page links to a carrier or insurer, it links to that company's own official page, and we say in the page when we earn nothing from it. If that ever changes, the disclosure will be on the page itself and not only here.
